yppoll(1M) yppoll(1M)
NAME yppoll - reports the version of a Network Information Service (NIS) map that is on an NIS server SYNOPSIS yppoll [-h host] [-d domain] mapname ARGUMENTS -d domain Specifies the name of a domain. If you do not use this option, yppoll uses the default domain, as returned by domainname. -h host Specifies the host to query about a map. If you do not use this option, yppoll queries the default host, as returned by ypwhich. The value of host can be a host name, as specified in /etc/hosts, or an Internet address of the form ww.xx.yy.zz. mapname Specifies the name of the map that is the subject of the query. The value of mapname can be a long map name, such as passwd.byname, or a short map name, such as pwd.nm. See Chapter 4, ``Setting Up the Network Information Server,'' in A/UX Network System Administration for the long and short map names. DESCRIPTION yppoll queries the ypserv process on the local system (or, if you use the -h option, on a remote system) to find out the order number and the name of the host that is the master NIS server for the named map. If ypserv process is a v.1 NIS protocol server, yppoll uses the older protocol to communicate with it, as well as the older diagnostic messages in case of failure.
