                        VMS Workstation Software Version 4.0A

                                    Cover Letter
                              Order Number: AV-JK76F-TE

This document provides supplemental information about Version
4.0A of VMS Workstation Software. It describes the changes for
Version 4.0A. Use it as a supplement to the Version 4.0 release
          notes.
                                        NOTE

Be sure you apply this update ONLY to systems already
             running VWS V4.0.

The changes provided by this release will be included in the
next release of VMS Workstation Software.

          Purpose of the Update
The purpose of this update is to provide two new driver image
files to correct an error in VWS Version 4.0 that caused prob-
lems with the mouse on VS3100 systems. On those VS3100 systems,
frequently the mouse did not become activated on startup. This
occurred because of a timing problem between the drivers and the
mouse. The files that solve this problem are as follows:
          o Sys$Loadable_Images:VEDRIVER.EXE

          o Sys$Loadable_Images:VFDRIVER.EXE

This update also supplies the symbol table files for these new
          drivers in the following files:
          o Sys$System:VEDRIVER.STB

          o Sys$System:VFDRIVER.STB

                                                                         1

          Installation
No VWS-specific questions are asked during the installation. The
installation verifies that you are running VMS V5.0 or greater
and that VWS has been installed on your system. The procedure
will purge the four files that it replaces.

The installation requires 260 free blocks. The net block uti-
lization is 0 blocks as the old copies of the files are purged.

          A sample installation follows.
