  script(1) CLIX script(1)

  NAME

script - Makes a typescript of a terminal session

  SYNOPSIS

    script [-a] [file]

  FLAGS

-a Appends the typescript to file.

  DESCRIPTION

The script command makes a typescript of everything displayed on your
terminal. The typescript is written to file, or appended to file if the
-a flag is given. It can be sent to the line printer later with lp, lpr,
or qpr. If no filename is given, the typescript is saved in the file
typescript, in the current working directory.

The script file is closed when you exit the shell or key in the <Ctrl-D>
    sequence.

This command is useful when using a display terminal and a hard-copy
record of the dialog is desired.

  EXAMPLES

The following command will append the typescript of the session to the
file outfile in your home directory.

    script -a ~/outfile

  FILES

    typescript
The typescript of everything displayed on the terminal.

  NOTES

The script command places everything in the log file. This file includes
all displayable and nondisplayable characters such as escape, backspace
and delete characters entered by the user and generated in the output.

  EXIT VALUES

The script command exits with a value of 0 if successful. If
unsuccessful, script exits with a value of 1.
