wnewmail(1) CLIX wnewmail(1)
NAME
wnewmail - Notifies the user of new mail
SYNOPSIS
wnewmail [filename]
DESCRIPTION
The wnewmail command is designed to run in a window on a windowing system
and check every ten seconds for new mail.
If there is new mail, wnewmail will beep and display the following
information to the window for each new message:
Mail from name -- subject
The name is either the name of the person sending the mail, or an address
in the form machine!login, where machine is the name of the machine from
which the mail was sent. The subject is the subject of the message. If
no subject was specified, the message no subject will be displayed on the
screen.
If the message is a priority message (that is, the header contains a
Priority: line), the line displayed will be PRIORITY mail from ... rather
than Mail from....
The wnewmail command is designed to run in a window by itself. The system
prompt does not reappear unless wnewmail is terminated. The wnewmail
command will run indefinitely, and can internally reset itself if mail is
deleted from the incoming mailbox while wnewmail monitors the mail. (This
command can be terminated by keying in the <Ctrl-C> sequence.)
If wnewmail is started with a specified filename, it will run exactly the
same way, but will check the specified file rather than the user's default
mailbox.
EXAMPLES
Start the command by entering wnewmail at the system prompt in a window
that you have already created. In this example, the user receives mail
from John Smith, who has the address of john@abc.def. The subject of the
message is Meeting at 4:00pm. Depending on the type of address
transcription of the user's system, the message line will be displayed in
one of two forms, as follows.
ARPAnet format:
