  NAME

    issue - Login announcement file

  DESCRIPTION

    The /etc/issue file is an ASCII text file that is normally displayed on a
    terminal before a user logs in.  The file usually contains a login
    announcement or project identification information.

    The file is read by the getty command and is written to any terminal
    spawned or respawned from the lines file.  The file displays in 256-
    character segments; pressing <Return> displays subsequent segments.

  EXAMPLES

    The following is a sample /etc/issue file:

    Access to this server is restricted to project development staff, and to
    any authorized users of the guest login.

    + The /usr4 directory contains prototypes and test space.
