  NAME

motd - Message of the day file

  DESCRIPTION

The /etc/motd file is an ASCII text file that is normally displayed on the
terminal when a user logs in. The file usually contains information about
the system that users may need to know, and daily or weekly messages from
    the system administrator.

The display of the motd file can be disabled by editing the /etc/profile
script. Users are allowed to interrupt the display of the file's contents
    during login.

  EXAMPLES

The following is a sample /etc/motd file:

    SYSTEM NEWS **************************************************************

05/12/93 This system has been upgraded to the ISS 07.00 Baseline.

05/15/93 The qprint tool is now command-line oriented, and handles more
input formats. It also pipes ASCII files through xa2ps for
              PostScript output.

05/24/93 The new laser printer is available. Send print jobs to NQS
              queue 'bullwinkle' on this system.
