NAME
.snmp_system - SNMP agent system group information for system contact and
system location
DESCRIPTION
The /etc/.snmp_system file contains the SNMP system group information for
the sysContact and sysLocation object instances as defined by RFC1213,
"Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-based
Internets: MIB-II." The sysContact instance is defined to be the
"textual identification of the contact person for this managed node." The
sysLocation instance is defined to be "the physical location of this
node".
On initial installation of the SNMP product, the information for the
sysContact and sysLocation is extracted from the XNS clearinghouse entry
for this node. The Primary User and Phone fields (from the XNS
clearinghouse entry) define the sysContact, and the Location field defines
the sysLocation. No further reference is made to the XNS clearinghouse
after initial installation.
The sysContact and sysLocation instances may be changed at any time in the
private MIB view via the Network Management System (NMS) product or any
appropriate network management system, or the snmpconfig utility which is
delivered with the SNMP product.
The format of the /etc/.snmp_system file is as follows:
System_Contact:xxxxxxxx
Location:yyyyyyyy
The xxxxxxxx parameter is the system contact information and yyyyyyyy is
the location information.
