  ypmapxlate(4) CLIX ypmapxlate(4)

  NAME

ypmapxlate - Translation table to handle long map names

  DESCRIPTION

A map name X in domain Y exists as the two files named X.pag and X.dir,
both in the directory path /etc/yp/Y/. Thus, in CLIX, the length of the
name X can be no more than ten (10) characters, since ten added to the
length of the extension, .pag or .dir, is equal to fourteen (14), the
maximum filename length in CLIX. A critical map name such as
passwd.byname is clearly a problem to represent in CLIX.

The /etc/yp/YP_MAP_X_LATE file contains entries of the following form:

    long_map_name short_map_name

When the NIS server receives a packet containing a logical (long) map
name, the name is looked up in the /etc/yp/YP_MAP_X_LATE file to determine
the physical (short) map name. Conversely, when the server transmits a
packet containing a map name, the physical map name is looked up in the
translation file to find the logical name for transmission.

  FILES

    /etc/yp/YP_MAP_X_LATE Map name translation file.

  NOTES

Comments (fields beginning with a number sign (#)) cannot be put in the
    map translation file.
