dmu - Runs disk maintenance utility (DMU)
SYNOPSIS
dmu
DESCRIPTION
The dmu utility is a disk maintenance utility that provides online defect
management, disk formatting, and disk partitioning capabilities for
magnetic drives and read/write optical cartridges.
You can use dmu for disk maintenance, on disks other than the internal
system disk, in the following situations:
⊕ If disks have been corrupted, or if corruption is suspected.
⊕ In response to bad block messages.
⊕ To format and partition disks.
⊕ To repartition disks.
Most of the operations that can be performed on external disks with dmu
can also be performed from the Workstation Utility Pages.
NOTES
Only the superuser can use dmu.
The Workstation Utility Pages must be used to perform disk maintenance
operations on the internal system disk. However, you can use dmu to
examine the status of the internal system disk.
CAUTIONS
Some dmu procedures destroy data.
