SYSDIAG(8) — MAINTENANCE COMMANDS
NAME
sysdiag − system diagnostics
SYNOPSIS
login: sysdiag
DESCRIPTION
sysdiag is a menu-driven, general-purpose diagnostic facility that tests the system and reports its findings. It consists of a user account with a home directory (/usr/diag/sysdiag) that contains a collection of shell scripts and diagnostic programs. Note that since the account for sysdiag has root access, it should be password protected immediately.
To use sysdiag, log in as sysdiag . Once you’ve logged in, a menu-driven interface offers you choices for various diagnostic tests to run. (See the Sun System Diagnostics Manual for further information.)
When run on the Workstation console, sysdiag initiates a suntools(1) environment. It creates a several terminal windows for diagnostic tests, along with a console window and a perfmon(1) performance monitor. When run on a terminal, sysdiag interleaves messages from the various tests (along with any from UNIX) on the screen.
Sysdiag logs messages for tests in the directory /usr2/hostname/sysdiag.log, where hostname is the name of the machine being diagnosed. Upon termination, sysdiag automatically displays the diagnostic messages it has logged.
