PUBMAIL(1)  —  USER COMMANDS

NAME

pubmail − E-mail a Publisher document or file

SYNOPSIS

pubmail docname1 [docname2...]

DESCRIPTION

Pubmail uses electronic mail to send a copy of the document or file specified.  If you are sending a Publisher document, it is converted to a file that can be sent by E-mail.  By default, the file is sent to the Customer Support team at ArborText, although you can specify a different recipient, if you prefer.

If the resulting file is less than half a megabyte in size, it will be sent out in a message with the header "Pubmail-generated encoded message".  If you have an installed copy of the unpubmail script, you can use the command unpubmail to reconstitute the file.  Otherwise, to reconstitute a file or document from a mail message with this header, first put the mail message in a file by itself.  Next, strip off the beginning of the file, down to an including the line that says "CUT HERE".  Then, use chmod to change the file permissions so that you have an executable file.  Finally, execute the file by typing the file name (as a command) at a system prompt.

Note:  When you reconstitute a pubmail message, any existing files with the same names will be overwritten.  Therefore, before you reconstitute a file or document, be sure you know what files and directories will be created by doing so.

If the resulting file is over half a megabyte large, pubmail will split the master file into two or more files and mail each file separately. The subject line for the mail messages containing these files indicates the order in which the files are to appear when the master file is reassembled.  For example, the mail message containing the ninth part of a document broken into twelve parts might have the subject line "Pubmail CTbib part 9 of 12".

Before reassembling a large file or document sent with pubmail, the recipient must save each mailed part in a separate file.  The file name for each part must be the same, but with an extension that reflects the position of the file in the master file (this information is given on the subject line).  For example, the ninth and tenth parts of the document CTbib should be saved in the files "CTbib.09" and "CTbib.10", respectively.

The unpubmail command is used to reassemble the parts.  The script for the unpubmail command and instructions regarding its use are sent along with the parts in a mail message with the header "Pubmail-Multifile Instructions".

EXAMPLES

To E-mail the document monthlyreport to customer support at ArborText, type:

% pubmail monthlyreport

This converts the document to a mailable file and mails it to help@arbortext.com.
