CHGRP(1) COMMAND REFERENCE CHGRP(1)
NAME
chgrp - change group ownership
SYNOPSIS
chgrp [ -f ] [ -l ] group filename...
DESCRIPTION
The chgrp command changes the group-ID of the filenames to
group. The group may be either a decimal group
identification (GID) or a group name found in the group-ID
file.
The user invoking chgrp must belong to the specified group
or must be the superuser.
OPTIONS
-f Force the command; do not give error messages about
nonexistent files or files that cannot have group
ownership changed.
-l Follow symbolic links. Normally, the group ownership of
the symbolic link itself is changed. The -l option
causes chgrp to follow the symbolic links and change the
group ownership of the file pointed to.
EXAMPLES
The following invocation changes the group of the file temp
to system:
chgrp system temp
FILES
/etc/group system group information
