REPL(1MH) COMMAND REFERENCE REPL(1MH)

NAME
repl - reply to a message

SYNOPSIS
     repl [ +folder ][ msgs ] [ options ... ]

DESCRIPTION
The repl command produces a reply to an existing mail
message. In its simplest form (with no arguments), repl
sets up a message-form skeleton in reply to the current
message in the current folder, invokes the editor, and sends
the composed message, if so directed. The composed message
     is constructed as follows:

          To: <Reply-To> or <From>
          Subject: Re: <Subject>
          In-reply-to: Your message of <Date>
               <Message-Id>

where field names enclosed in angle brackets (< >) indicate
the contents of the named field from the message to which
the reply is being made. If -cc is specified, a Cc: line is
constructed from contents of the Cc: and/or To: fields from
the message to which the reply is being made.

Once the skeleton is constructed, an editor is invoked (as
in comp(1mh), dist(1mh), and forw(1mh)). While in the
editor, the message being replied to is available through a
link called @. In ex, this means the replied-to message may
be read using the command :r @.

As in comp(1mh), dist(1mh), and forw(1mh), you are queried
before the message is sent. If the -annotate switch is
specified, the replied-to message will be annotated with the
     single line, as such:

          Replied: <<Date Time>>

only if the message is sent directly. The command comp -use
may be used to pick up interrupted editing, as in dist(1mh)
and forw(1mh); the -inplace switch annotates the message in
place, so that all folders with links to it will see the
     annotation.

Your .mh_profile can contain the following entries:

Path: To determine the user's MH directory
Editor: To override use of /etc/mh/prompter as the default editor
Current-Folder: To find the default current folder

The repl command has the following defaults:

REPL(1MH) COMMAND REFERENCE REPL(1MH)

          +folder defaultstocurrent
          msgs defaults to cur
          -editor defaults to /etc/mh/prompter
          -noannotate
          -noinplace
          -cc

If a +folder is specified, it becomes the current folder,
and the current message is set to the replied-to message.

OPTIONS
-annotate If specified, the replied-to message is
annotated with the line Replied: <<Date
Time>> if the message is sent directly.

-noannotate Do not add annotations to repl messages.

-ccme Send a copy of this mail message to me.

-noccme Do not send a carbon copy of this mail
                         message to me.

-editor editor Invoke the specified editor: vi, ed, ex,
emacs, etc. For example, the command
repl 5 -e vi invokes the vi editor on
                         mail message number 5.

-format Format the mail message as if to send
it, removing the dashed line below the
Subject line; do not send the message.

-noformat Format the mail message as if sending
it; do not remove any header
information; do not send the message.

-inplace Annotate the message Replied: <<Date
Time>> to the mail message in place; all
folders with links to the message
                         preserve their links.

-noinplace Do not annotate a message in place.

-width Invoke the width option of the pr(1)
                         command. See pr(1) for information.

(help) Print information about the repl
                         command.

-cc Send a carbon copy of this mail message
                         to the indicated user.

-nocc Do not send any carbon copies of this

                         mail message.

(build) Construct the mail message but do not
send it. You can send the message later
                         with the comp -use command.

-wait Wait until the mail message is sent
                         before terminating.

     -nowait Terminate immediately after selecting
the send command in response to the What
now? prompt (send the mail message
