REBOOT(8) COMMAND REFERENCE REBOOT(8)
NAME
reboot - UTek bootstrapping procedures
SYNOPSIS
/etc/reboot [ -n ] [ -q ]
DESCRIPTION
Reboot provides a way to restart UTek from scratch without
cycling power. This is necessary when the kernel is
changed, or when some other aspect of basic operation
changes.
Reboot should only be run from single-user mode. When a
reboot from multi-user mode is desired, shutdown(8) with the
"-r" option is preferred.
Rebooting a running system. By using reboot and shutdown the
disks are synchronized, UTek operation is halted, and a
normal bootstrap sequence is started. The boot process
proceeds through automatic startup to multi-user mode.
Power fail and panic recovery. Normally, the system reboots
itself after power returns or after panics (software-
detected system faults causing the kernel to terminate
operation). The boot process proceeds through automatic
startup to multi-user mode. Some panics will not result in
a reboot, leaving the machine halted.
OPTIONS
-n Avoids disk synchronization. Needed after fixing the
root file system.
-q Reboots quickly and ungracefully, without shutting down
running processes first.
