YPWHICH(8) COMMAND REFERENCE YPWHICH(8)
NAME
ypwhich - which machine is the YP server
SYNOPSIS
ypwhich [ -d domainname ] [ hostname ]
ypwhich [ -d domainname ] [ -t ] -m [ mname ]
DESCRIPTION
The command ypwhich tells which YP (Yellow Pages) server
supplies Yellow Pages to a YP client, and which YP server is
the master for a map. If invoked without arguments, ypwhich
gives the YP server for the local machine. If hostname is
specified, that machine is queried to find out which YP
master it is using.
If the -m switch is used without mname, a list of every map
in the domain and the master of each will be printed. If
mname is specified, only the master YP server for that map
is printed; mname may be a map name, or a nickname for a map
name. Map names and nicknames are described in ypcat(1).
OPTIONS
-d Specify the name of a YP domain (domainname);
default is the default domain for the local
machine.
-m Find the master YP server for a map, or for all
maps in a domain; specifying a hostname with -m is
optional.
-t Inhibit nickname translation; useful if there is a
map name identical to a nickname.
CAVEATS
If you run ypbind at boot time, then type ypwhich before
doing anything else, you receive an error message:
Domain name_of_domain not bound where
name_of_domain is local host's default domain.
The only way to make sure you have YP services running is to
run ypwhich again (the server's name is printed if the
client is bound to a server).
