     NUSERS(1) NUSERS(1)

     NAME
nusers - display or limit the number of network connections.

     SYNOPSIS
          nusers [-n]

          nusers limit

     HP-UX COMPATIBILITY
          Level: HP-UX/NON-STANDARD

          Origin: HP

     DESCRIPTION
Nusers displays the current network activity. On Series 500
computers, the current limit is displayed, followed by a
list of the network services that are currently being used
and the number of users of each service. On Series 200 and
300 computers, the current limit and the number of active
          connections are displayed.

-n The -n option is implemented on Series 500 computers
only. Each service being used is displayed with a
list of the node names using the service. If a node
name is not available, the hexadecimal internet
                 address is displayed.

Nusers limit sets a new limit on the number of network
connections allowed at the local node. The default limit on
a Series 500 computer is 9999. The maximum number of
connections allowed on a Series 200 or 300 computer is 96.
          This option requires super-user capabilities.

limit The number of network connections is limited to the
value of limit. A limit value of -1 for Series 500
computers or 0 for Series 200 and 300 computers can
be used to shut down network activity by prohibiting
any new network activity. The command nusers -1 (or
nusers 0) can be used in the shutdown script
/etc/shutdown (see stopsys(1M)) and in preparation
for a file system check (see fsck(1M)).

     DIAGNOSTICS
network is in wrong state Network is not powered up.
