echo − echo arguments

Syntax

echo [−n] [arg...]

Description

The echo command writes its arguments separated by blanks and terminated by a new line on the standard output.

Options

−nSuppresses newlines from output. 

Examples

The echo command is useful for producing diagnostics in shell programs and for writing constant data on pipes. To send diagnostics to the standard error file, type the following:

echo ... 1>&2
