halt − stop the processor

Syntax

/etc/halt [ −n ] [ −q ] [ −y ]

Description

The halt command writes information to the disks and then returns the processor to the monitor.  The machine does not reboot.

Options

-nPrevents the sync before stopping. 

-qCauses a quick halt, no graceful shutdown is attempted. 

-yAllows you to halt the system from a dialup.
