kbmap(1) CLIX kbmap(1)
NAME
kbmap - Changes keyboard mapping
SYNOPSIS
/etc/kbmap mapfile
DESCRIPTION
The kbmap command changes the keyboard mapping to reflect standard
mappings used in different cultures. The command affects only the letter,
number, and punctuation keys on the main section of the keyboard. The
keypad and function keys are not changed.
The kbmap command does not affect UP/DOWN keyboard encoding. This UP/DOWN
keyboard encoding is not presently supported for the X Window System and
SoftPC. The xmodmap command can be used to change the workstation default
mapping for the X Window System.
You must either be superuser or in group sys to run this command.
EXAMPLES
To change the keyboard mapping to a standard French mapping, use the
following command:
/etc/kbmap /etc/kbfiles/French
FILES
/etc/kbfiles/*

EXIT VALUES
This command exits with a value of 0 if successful. If unsuccessful, it
