NAME
kbdefault - Changes default keyboard mapping
SYNOPSIS
kbdefault [-?] [language]
DESCRIPTION
The kbdefault command displays and changes the default keyboard mapping
for the workstation. The kbdefault utility without arguments will display
the current default keyboard mapping. A list of available languages is
displayed and the user is prompted for a new keyboard mapping default.
The user keys in a supported language, or presses <Return> to indicate no
change. If the default is changed, the new default is displayed.
The kbdefault utility only changes the default keyboard mapping for the
workstation. The change does not become effective until the workstation
is rebooted. The default keyboard mapping is effective in both single-
user and multiuser modes of operation. The keyboard mapping remains in
effect until the kbmap command is used to change the keyboard mapping, or
until kbdefault is used to change the default and the workstation is
rebooted.
The kbdefault command modifies the inittab file to change the default
keyboard mapping.
The kbdefault command does not affect UP/DOWN keyboard encoding. This
UP/DOWN keyboard encoding is not presently supported for the X Window
System and SoftPC. The xmodmap command can be used to change the
workstation default mapping for the X Window System.
