INSTALL(8) GENIX Programmer's Manual INSTALL(8)
NAME
install - install system software
SYNOPSIS
install [ -m ] [ -r ] [ -s ] [ -x ] file1 file2
install [ -m ] [ -r ] [ -s ] [ -x ] file ... directory
DESCRIPTION
Install copies file1 to file2.
In the second form, one or more files are copied to the directory
with their original file names.
Install is normally used in the install rule of a makefile to
release programs and related files to their appropriate directories.
Options:
-m moves the source file(s) instead of copying them.
-r runs ranlib(1) on the destination file. This is useful when
installing a library file like libc.a.
-s runs strip(1) on the destination file to remove unnecessary
symbols. Most installed programs should be stripped this way.
-x removes any extension from the source file name to produce the
destination file name.
CROSS SUPPORT
In a cross support environment, install is called minstall.
