HALT(8)  —  MAINTENANCE COMMANDS

NAME

halt − stop the processor

SYNOPSIS

/etc/halt [ −n ] [ −q ] [ −y ]

DESCRIPTION

Halt writes out sandbagged information to the disks and then stops the processor. 

OPTIONS

−nPrevents the sync before stopping. 

−qDo a quick halt, no graceful shutdown is attempted. 

−yNeeded if you are trying to halt the system from a dialup.
