mkdfs(1) CLIX mkdfs(1)
NAME
mkdfs - Initializes an MS-DOS disk
SYNOPSIS
mkdfs [-l] [-f] [-uv]
FLAGS
-l Specifies a low density switch. Since 1.44MB and 1.2MB disks are far
more common in the workstation world, the higher density is the
default. Use this flag for the low density 720K 3.5-inch disks, or
low density 5.25-inch disks.
-f Reformats the drive before initialization. This flag is useful for
new or damaged disks.
-u Changes the default drive from /dev/rdsk/fl to the 3.5-inch floppy
device, /dev/rdsk/ufloppy.
-v Changes the default drive from /dev/rdsk/fl to the 5.25-inch floppy
device, /dev/rdsk/floppy.
DESCRIPTION
The mkdfs command formats and initializes a DOS file system on a 3.5 inch
or 5.25 internal floppy. If so invoked, it first calls the standard
format utility and then lays out an empty filesystem. It creates an empty
DOS file system of appropriate format on the disk.
